When was the last time you got everyone together, whether that be your friends or family and had a barrel of laughs at the expense of one or two great board games? If the answer is 'a long time', then as winter sets in you might just want to start up a collection (or add to it!). Here are a few goodies to tempt you:

1. PANDEMIC $69.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 8 and up)

In Pandemic each player is given a job and a special power with which you’ll use to travel around the globe preventing outbreaks and finding cures to rid the world of 4 terrifying diseases. Players beware! In order to win, you’ll need to work as a team.

2. ZINGO $44.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 4 and up)

What would Bingo look like if instead of matching numbers you matched pictures? The answer would be Zingo! This is a fun game the whole family can play. Take turns sliding the zinger which in turn shoots out picture cards for you to match. The first player to match all the pictures to their card wins.

3. BOP IT BEATS $27.99 from Farmers (Recommended for ages 8 and up)

Fancy yourself as quite the DJ? The key to acing this game is to listen to the commands while bopping, flipping, spinning and scratching your way to the all-too-familiar beats (which include the likes of Avicii and Nicky Minaj).

4. PICKLES TO PENGUINS $49.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 8 and up)

Ready to sharpen up your lateral thinking? Pickles to Penguins is a test of who can get rid of their cards the quickest, only to do so you’ll need to figure out what your cards and the cards in play have in common. For instance, are they ingredients in the same recipe? Are they the same colour? Beware though as wrong guesses result in penalties.

5. 5 SECOND RULE GAME $29.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 8 and up)

Speed and quick thinking are key to winning this fast-paced game in which each player has exactly five seconds to name three things listed on their playing card. The fastest player wins the round and quite possibly the game.

6. HARRY POTTER SCRABBLE $49.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 10 and up)

Die-hard Harry Potter fans, this one’s for you, though if you’re not familiar with the movie you’re still bound to have lots of fun. Take turns drawing cards and creating words (even better if they’re from the Harry Potter word list – included) then get ready to bump up your score and swindle your opponents with spells and potions as you play.

7. BALDERDASH $44.99 from Farmers (Recommended for ages 12 and up)

How good at bluffing are you? Balderdash is a hilarious game that involves guessing the answers to some rather ridiculous subjects and managing to convince the other players that your answer is ‘the’ answer. The more players that pick your answer as being the right one, the more points you win and the faster you’ll finish.

8. LOVE LETTER CARD GAME $19.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 10 and up)

The simplest of playing pieces are needed to play this fun game which is fairly short and can be played as a warm up or icebreaker to something else. The aim is simple, to get your letter to the princess first and win her heart before anyone else can (plus there are plenty of sneaky ways to take out the other players too).

9. SING IT BACK $9.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 8 and up)

Sometimes it’s the singing games that bring out the most laughs and Sing It Back is all about how well you can get your team to guess the song and sing the next line back to you. Don’t have an amazing singing voice? Don’t worry! This game is as much about having fun as it is about winning.

10. GOOGLY EYES GAME $39.99 from Whitcoulls (Recommended for ages 7 and up)

So you think you can draw? But how good might your drawing skills be when your vision is blurred? Googly Eyes is a fun-filled game where players roll the dice then take turns drawing the picture using the specified lens! Guess correctly and move forward. Fun and laughter at its best!
